The Key Role of Thought in Wellness and Healing

1.Compare and contrast the Loving Kindness exercise and the Subtle mind exercise. Explain your experience, including the benefits, frustrations etc. 2.Discuss the connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness. Explain how the connection is manifested in your personal life. I did this exercise right before bed, with no distractions and a cup of tea. I didn't like the guy at the beginning, but liked the female who led the exercise. I liked the ocean sounds when she wanted us to focus on something. The imagery she used was much better in this exercise I think. Her voice was calming, her suggestions didn't seem crazy or weird. I liked this one better than the Loving Kindness exercise. I am not sure I am able to come up with things to compare and contrast between the two, other than maybe some of the visualizations in this one were a little better and easier to imagine and "put myself into." I definitely think there is a link between spiritual wellness and mental and physical wellness. To me, spiritual means believing in a higher power, it may or may not be to just one all powerful Being. It means having faith, believing and knowing that there is more out there for you to trust and experience. Connecting spirituality to mental and physical wellness helps us keep a calm mind and a kind heart. When we have a loved one who is ill, we pray for them to get better, we ask for a higher power to intervene when and where medicine cannot. Some may view these things as miracles. Although it is highly unlikely that any of us will attain the levels of development described by the great mystics, we can gain a great deal by understanding the full spectrum of biological flourishing. When we are freed from the prison of an exclusively anatomical perspective, we attain the capacity to control aspects of our anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology and perhaps even our genetic structure, (Dacher, 2012, p 86).

  1. I really agree with your post. I’m going to start with question number 1 there wasn’t a whole lot of compare and contrast that I could do with these exercises, but one thing I’m going to tell you about loving kindness exercise the reason why you didn’t feel this exercise to me is the guy seemed sort of high strong with it and it somewhat seems as though that he didn’t want to be the one to do the exercise, but you never know really feel as though everything that we do, see, or hear happens for a reason. Maybe that was the way the exercise was supposed to go we don’t know, but I feel with that little distraction help me too focus a little harder on the exercises that we was told to do. Question number 2 all of it is connected, and your right about another thing it’s our faith is what move god, and to me it’s good to believe and something higher than yourself, and sometimes you don’t need an explanation, because behind everything that happens a person shouldn’t always need to why it happened as long as it did. Good Blog!

  2. I also liked this exercise/practice better than the loving kindness one. Its also a practice I will definitely be using in the future to try and perfect it. I have trouble quieting my active mind and this practice really worked for me. I don't know if it was her voice or what but it was easier for me to focus on my breathing than it was trying to visualize colors in a rainbow.

  3. i agree with Sonya! I did enjoy this exercise better than the other one as well! I need to start practicing on concentrating more with the exercises. I find myself being highly distracted or loosing concentration. I will keep trying. I enjoyed reading your blog.

  4. I'm happy to hear you had an easier time with this exercise. I had a bit more difficulty since I have a cold and was easily distracted by my loud and challenging breathing. Do you find that doing these exercises is helping your everyday concentration and awareness?
